10 steps to clean a Hoshizaki ice storage bin.

When it comes to ensuring that your customers receive the freshest and most sanitary ice possible, maintaining a pristine ice storage bin is paramount. The Hoshizaki ice storage bin, renowned for its quality and durability, is no exception. But how do you go about cleaning it effectively?

Before You Get Started:

Before diving into the cleaning process, keep in mind a few essential points:

  • It's crucial to clean and sanitize your icemaker at least once a year. In cases of severe water conditions, it's advisable to perform this more frequently.
  • Warning: Avoid using ammonia-based cleaners.
  • Always wear safety glasses and gloves for protection, ensuring you have the necessary equipment ready for scrubbing and water collection.

Steps to Clean the Hoshizaki Ice Storage Bin:

  1. Preparing the Baffle: Remove the thumbscrews and baffle. Prepare a mixture containing 5.3 fluid ounces of scale remover in 1 gallon of warm water. Let the baffle soak in this solution for about 15 minutes.
  2. Application of the Cleaning Mixture: Spray the inside of the bin with the scale remover mixture you've prepared.
  3. Scrubbing the Inside: With a scrubbing tool apt for the bin size, ensure you clean every corner, wall, bin opening, and lid of the machine.
  4. Rinse the Scale Remover: Before moving on to the bleach mixture, ensure you rinse the bin thoroughly with water to remove any remnants of the scale remover.
  5. Using the Bleach Mixture: Prepare a solution of 0.5 fluid ounces of bleach per 1 gallon of warm water. Spray the inside of the bin with this mixture, using a nylon brush to scrub the bin's corners and walls. Remember to wipe the bin opening and lid.
  6. Rinse Again: Rinse the bin thoroughly with water, ensuring no bleach remains. Wipe the bin down with a clean cloth.
  7. Addressing Limescale: Scrub the baffle and thumbscrews vigorously to rid them of any limescale buildup.
  8. Final Rinse for Baffle and Thumbscrews: Once scrubbed, rinse the baffle and thumbscrews with water. Use the bleach mixture to spray and scrub them again, followed by a thorough rinse with water.
  9. Restarting the Machine: Before turning the machine back on, ensure it's been completely drained and rinsed thoroughly.
  10. Polishing the Exterior: With a clean cloth and some stainless steel polish, give the exterior of your machine a pristine finish.

Regular cleaning and maintenance of your Hoshizaki ice storage bin are not just about the longevity of your equipment but, more importantly, about ensuring that your customers receive clean and safe ice. Always prioritize cleanliness and enjoy the trust and loyalty of your clientele.
